Day four in Haiti was an adventure.
We started the day with devotional and breakfast. At devotional we randomly selected two of the children's profiles to pray over. I got Manio Litha and Angelina. As we went around the room lifting each child up in prayer, the emotions of the week overflowed. Kayle cried. Alana cried. When it came to my turn I was already holding back tears. I got through Manio Litha's prayer with composure but when I went to say Angelina's name I broke down. I could only think of her sweet smile, her loneliness and her need for love and protection. We ended the prayer and discussion reaffirming God's plan and powerful love for these orphans.
As we were about to leave to visit an IDP camp called Camp Abraham, we were alerted that riots over the President had broken out in the city. We were advised to stay home for a while until things settled down. After a break we got back in the "mountain goat" for another tour of the city. More smog, dust, open markets, weaving trucks and staring faces. It felt like we were on display.
We went to Swamp Kids for a little while to see our babies. It turns out Angelina and Micha (Lindsay's girl) are sisters! The girls cling to us and fix our hair like preening little monkeys. I absolutely love them. The trip was short but sweet.
One of our translators, Manno #2, is hilarious! We just laugh at each other all day. He taught me that "ou comic" means "you're funny."
Dinner was delicious and we got to try sugar cane for dessert. We ended the night by tying ourselves in a "knot" on the roof. No personal body space or shame seem to be the themes of this trip.
All in all, the day was great.
